New Delhi, 16 Feb 2021 [Fik/News Sources]: The Congress, which has formed an alliance with the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) to assembly polls in Assam, said that AIUDF chief Maulana Badruddin Ajmal is not anti-Hindu but he talks only about the welfare of Muslims.

“Talking about the welfare of Muslims or the people of his own religion is not a crime unless he hates the people of other religions. Ajmal has never been anti-Hindu,” Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora told PTI.

Bora questioned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act in Assam. He maintained that Modi has visited the poll bound state twice in one month but he has said nothing on CAA.

“The CAA is a major issue for Assam. But why is the prime minister silent on it?” he asked.

The Congress-led alliances include left and regional parties as well. Bora is the chief ministerial candidate of the said alliance.

He said that the BJP itself had entered into a pact with Ajmal’s party to capture powers in three district councils — Darrang, Karimganj and Nagaon. “The BJP has no moral right to lecture us on politics,” he said.

He alleged that the BJP is “more communal” than any other party as it had formed a government in Jammu and Kashmir along with “anti-India forces” like the PDP, which “does not accept the Indian constitution and Indian flag”.

“The PDP had declared Afzal Guru, who was hanged for the Parliament attack, a martyr,” he claimed.
