New Delhi, 04 Feb 2021 [Fik/News Sources]: The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, a joint body of farmer unions, on Wednesday acknowledged the support of international personalities for the ongoing farmers’ movement in India.

They said that on the one hand, it was a matter of pride that eminent personalities of the world were showing sensitivity towards the cause of farmers, while, on the other hand, it was unfortunate that the Government of India did not understand the pain of the farmers and some people were even calling peaceful farmers as terrorists.

After American pop singer Rihanna’s tweet, a number of international celebrities extended their support for farmer protests in India.

The Morcha also extended its support to the one-day strike of electricity workers across the country. “We strongly oppose the privatisation of electricity sector. The Draft Electricity Amendment Bill 2020 is an attack on farmers as well as other citizens”, the Morcha said.

In the press statement, the farmer unions said the farmer movement was getting stronger day by day. After heavy support in Kisan Mahapanchayats in Uttar Pradesh, farmers have organised Mahapanchayats in Dabra and Phulbagh in Madhya Pradesh, Mehndipur in Rajasthan and Jind in Haryana. A large number of farmers will be coming to Delhi in the coming days.

Farmers from Rajasthan and Punjab are reaching the Shahjahanpur border continuously. After the atrocities of the government, farmers have again started a dharna at Palwal border. In the coming days, a large number of farmers will reach this site from Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, they said.

The Morcha has taken note of the transport-related issues that were discussed by Kundli and Singhu enterprises and is intent on resolving the same to the extent possible.

The Morcha has also condemned the police action to stop the entry of journalists on the Singhu border.

“The government has already shut down the Internet and now the entry of media persons to the protest sites and ensuing coverage is being choked by the government. The government is fearful of the reality of this movement reaching the common people across the country and is doing its best to block communication from the protest sites,” the Morcha said.

The statement said that, by doing all this, the government wants to spread its propaganda, which the farmers will not allow at any cost. It is high time that internet services were restored, that barricading of main and internal roads was removed, that supplies were freely allowed, that innocent protesters were released, that attacks on peaceful protesters by orchestrated mobs was immediately stopped by a democratic government.
