Bengaluru, 16 Sep 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: Former MLA B A Mohiuddin Bava alleged that illegal sand mining is rampant in Mangalore North Assembly constituency limits.
He accused MLA Dr Bharath Shetty of not acting against such illegal activities.
The illegal sand extraction is taking place at Adyar, Meenakaliya, Baikampady, Tannirbhavi and Nayarkudru, he told reporters on Tuesday.
He alleged that BJP workers were themselves involved in illegal sand extraction both in CRZ and non-CRZ areas.
This illegal activity has reached its peak at a time when construction activity has almost come to a standstill in the past few months. The price of sand has escalated to Rs 18,000 per truckload.
Bava said he had brought the issue to the notice of Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V.
If the administration fails to act against illegal sand extraction, then Congress workers will organise up a large scale protest.
A complaint will also be lodged with Lokayukta about the illegal sand extraction, he added.
