U-K dist: Highest single-day spike of 115 Covid cases on Saturday

Karwar, 19 July 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: Uttara Kannada district recorded the highest single-day spike of 115 Covid cases on Saturday. With this, the total number of cases rose to 1,016 with 660 active cases, 346 recoveries, and 10 deaths.

Of the 115 new cases, 33 persons had come in primary/secondary contact with Covid patients. While seven had travel history to places within the country, one had returned from a foreign country. However, the source of infection of 49 cases is unknown in the primary tracing.

Rise of such cases with unknown source has been increasing for the last few days, and this has been posing a challenge to the district administration in checking the spread of the virus.

Cases in Haliyal and Dandeli taluks are in an upward mode, and as per Saturday Bulletin, 52 people from these taluks tested positive for Covid-19. The other cases were reported in Karwar taluk (11), Bhatkal (9), Mundgod (9), Kumta (9), Ankola (8), Sirsi (7), Honnavar (6), Siddapur (3), and Yellapur (1). Meanwhile, 24 Covid patients who were cured were discharged from various hospitals in the district.
