New Delhi, 25 June 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: ‘Humanity Wins’ is the watchword for 39 year old Chennai-based software pro Naim Tabriz Fazlullah Khan and his spouse Mehathaj Parveen, who are doing yeomen service in feeding the needy, distributing grocery kits to poor families besides helping stranded people with a livelihood in the turmeric city of Erode.

It is interesting to infer that Naim, who is Director, Technical Support at Dell had come to Erode from Chennai to pick up his wife from his in-laws home when nationwide lockdown on March 22 forced him to remain here till normalcy returns. Moved by the pathetic plight of homeless people stranded on roadsides sans any help, the humanitarian-minded IT expert distributed bread and biscuits.

However, he got the support from his family, friends and likeminded people in reaching out to hapless people initially by feeding them. Thanks to Erode Corporation Commissioner Elangovan in offering the Kollampalayam Corporation Elementary School premises located at Railway colony to the couple to shelter the stranded people and to take care of them till lockdown eases.

This Erode ‘Mapppillai’ made his in-laws proud in helping the stranded people not just with food, but with a livelihood based on their interests. What more, he ensured a watch-repairer and a tailor to set up their own shops to earn during this lockdown. Naim was firm in unlocking the skills of the sheltered people and showing them a way to keep themselves engaged.

Surprisingly, the couple’s community service received the appreciation from the District Collector C Kathiravan and the then District SP Dr Sivakumar. Naim made the sheltered people at the school premises feel at home providing entertainment and indoor games to keep them hale and hearty. Undoubtedly, it became a second home for them. In a step further, Naim even made alcoholics give up their habit which is yet another redeeming feature of his community service initiative.

With the belief of collective action greatly impacts the world, Naim came up with a portal humanitywins under his ‘Humanity During COVID-19′ to bring all likeminded under a single platform to help the needy. As of May 15, Naim said that about Rs 13.50 lakh ($17800) had been spent for this purpose with the generous contributions of people far and near. For needy families, the couple is giving away Rs 2300 worth grocery kit for a month for a family of four.  Naim can be contacted by ringing 9003256372 and can get details thru’ his mail naimtkhan@gmail.com.
