Mangaluru, 08 Dec 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: Union Forum of Corporation Bank Unions (UFCBU) and Corporation Bank Officers Association (CBOA) staged a protest against the merger of banks in front of Corporation Bank headquarters in Pandeshwar on Saturday, December 7.
Opposing the merger of Corporation Bank with Andhra Bank and Union Bank of India and merger of Syndicate Bank with Canara Bank, UFCBU convener, Vincent D’Souza said that Corporation Bank, founded in undivided Dakshina Kannada district had provided employment opportunities to thousands of people and this merger will be a loss to people of the district. There is a need to fight against the merger of banks as several employees will lose their job.
Around 6,950 branches of various associate banks have been closed post the merger of State Bank India with the associate banks. After Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank merged with Bank of Baroda, 900 branches were closed. The common man has to suffer because of closure of bank branches, he said.
