Mangaluru: Coast Guard’s offshore patrol vessel ’Varaha’ arrives

Mangaluru, 15 Oct 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: Coast Guard’s offshore patrol vessel ’Varaha’ arrived  at New Mangalore Port on October 15, Tuesday. Senior Coast Guard officials including Raj Kamal Sinha,  CISF officer Ashutosh Gaur and others  were present  to receive Varaha.

Designed and built indigenously by  Larsen and Toubro, Varaha has capabilities to operate twin engine Advance Light Helicopters  and is fitted with state of the art communication technology and navigation, sensor and machinery.

The vessel is equipped with a 30-mm gun and a 12.7mm gun for enhancing the fighting efficiency of the vessel.

Some of the special features of the vessel include Integrated Bridge System, Automated power management system, high power external fire fighting system, indigenously built Integrated platform management system and Help Traversing System.

The ship also carries four high speed boats including two rigid hull inflated boats for boarding operation, search and rescue, law enforcement and maritime patrol. Besides this, the ship has capabilities of carrying Pollution Response equipment to contain oil spill at sea. The ship weighs 2100 tonnes and is propelled by two engines and is capable of achieving maximum speed of 26 knots and endurance of 5000 nautical miles.
