New Delhi, 08 Oct 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: Religious scholars gathered here to celebrate  3-days silver jubilee function of the  Markazul Maarif Education and Research Centre (MMERC). They urged Madrasa graduates to learn international languages, particularly English, in order to spread true message of Islam and dispelling misconceptions about the religion.

The  programme was held in Madani Hall at the Jamiatul Ulema Hind headquarters in New Delhi .

The scholars were of the opinion that removing misunderstandings and misconceptions about Islam and its followers need to be done in a concrete manner.

At the concluding seminar of the silver jubilee celebrations of MMERC, “Ulema, Muslim Youth and Contemporary Challenges”, on Sunday scholars pointed out that Ulema need to equip them with modern languages to fight Islamophobia and to propagate correct teachings of Islam with a view to build a just and equitable society in the world.

Mohammed Saleem Engineer, vice-president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, speaking as a chief guest said that the Muslims should not get disappointed in the present adverse circumstances.  “Even if the circumstances are not favourable, experience has shown that those who have striven in the path of Allah, have succeeded”, he added.

K M Bahrul Islam, IIM Kashipur director, speaking on the occasion stressed on the use of latest technology in the furtherance of Islam.

Jamait-ul-Ulema Hind (M) general secretary Mahmood Madani, who also graced the occasion, said the knowledge of language was key to promote ideas and thought. “How can we solve the problems if we don’t have command over the language”, he said, adding that the knowledge of English language being imparted to ‘madrasa’ passouts by MMERC would go a long way in achieving the goals of the community.

Dr Umar Gautam, founding director of MMERC, in his report, said that as many as 47 students of MMERC had done PhDs in different subjects since the centre was founded in 1994. Many of them, he said, were teaching in foreign countries. A total of 1800 students have passed out so far from MMERC.

MMERC also publishes a monthly English language magazine “Eastern Crescent” which has become a very popular literature in a very short span of time. It is edited by Burhanuddin Qasmi, a product of Darul Uloom Deoband.

MMERC on the occasion also conferred title of Fakhrul Ulema (Pride of ulema) to Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, MP and chairman of the Ajmal Group of companies and Maulana Umar Gautam was honoured with the title of Rafeequl Ulema (Friends of Ulema). MMERC is also funded by Ajmal group as a part of company’s Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) activities.

Earlier, Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, founder of the Center, opened the ceremony with the keynote address asserting that ‘the distinctive feature of MMERC is its inalienable association with the Islamic seminaries envisioned to create balanced, honest, dedicated and intelligent individuals capable of transparent representation of Islam. Alhamdulillah, we accomplished the target to some extent as we currently have a considerably large network of individuals making valuable contributions in the fields of research, journalism, translation, and various other arenas.’

Qari Usman Mansurpuri , the president of Jamiatul Ulema, Hind paid tribute to the endeavours of Maulana Ajmal and called ‘learning English’ as part of religious education. He said, ‘Equipping oneself with English language widens the field of Dawah as exemplified by dozens of MMERC alumni scattered through various countries serving Islam in various ways.’ This effort deserves immense accolades as a part of our mission materialises through such selfless efforts of huge significance.

‘MMERC Number’ of weekly Milli Baseerat and ‘Inqilabi Tehreeren’ was also launched on the occasion by Maulana Muddassir Ahmad Qasmi, a teacher at MMERC. In addition to that, ‘Khabar dar Khabar’, a program on the history and milestones accomplished by MMERC by Shams Tabrez was also screened in the auditorium.
