New Delhi, 18 August 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: After five decades the Kashmir issue was discussed by UN Security Council , thanks to the ‘mis-adventurism’ of Modi govt. that internationalized the issue.

On August 5, India revoked Article 370 of the Constitution removing the special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and also bifurcated the state into two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

Another surprise came from Russia which expressed hope during a closed-door consultation of the Security Council at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York that India and Pakistan would settle the dispute over Kashmir in accordance with the charter and the relevant resolutions of the international organisation as well as bilateral agreements.

On the other side Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday welcomed the closed-door consultations on Kashmir by the UN Security Council, saying the resolution of the dispute is the “responsibility” of the world body.

Taking to Twitter, Khan said that it was for the first time in over five decades that the “world’s highest diplomatic forum” had taken up the issue of Kashmir and the “serious situation” prevailing there.

After the closed- door meeting on Kashmir by the UN Security Council,  India’s UN Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin spoke. “It’s entirely an internal matter for India,” he said, adding: “We don’t need international busybodies.”

The Congress  termed the UNSC discussing the Kashmir issue a “grave diplomatic failure” of the BJP government and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to talk to “India’s friends” in the United Nations to stall the meeting.

Addressing the media persons Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said it was a failure on the part of the government’s foreign policy to allow internationalization of the Kashmir issue in the UN.
