Uppala, 18 July 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: An Indian container ship which lost its bearing and reached Indonesia, has been arrested by the government there. The Indonesian navy has also detained 22 Indians aboard the vessel including 2 from Kasaragod identified as PK Musa Kunni and Kalandar from Uppala Parekatte and Kumble respectively.
Although the incident has occurred 5 months ago, the arrested men have not yet been released. One of the incarcerated, made a call to a relative informing of the situation only after which the incident came to light.
Last March, the container vessel identified as “SG Pegasus” started its journey from Mumbai to Singapore with a load of chemical goods. On its journey, the ship’s engine malfunctioned and thus the vessel drifted towards Indonesian waters. Noticing the ship in its territorial waters, the Indonesian navy arrested the ship.
Lack of food, medicine
Musa Kunni, who is currently being detained on the vessel has informed that the water, food and medicine aboard the ship has run out, informed his brother PK Abudulla. The victims aboard the ship have also pleaded with the Central Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to get them released.
