Village accountant punished for demanding bribe to provide RTC

Mangaluru, 01 May 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: The Village Accountant who had demanded bribe to provide an RTC has been sentenced to a year of imprisonment and fined Rs 10,000 by the court. The convict is Umesh Kavadi, Panambur village accountant.

The accused had demanded Rs 10,000 from Purushottam Salian from Meenakali in Baikampady to provide the latter with the RTC in 2013. The accused had also collected Rs 5,000 from him. When the accused demanded a further Rs 10,000 for the work to be done, Mr Salian informed the Lokayukta police of this. When the accused was collecting Rs 9,000 from his victim, the Lokyukta police conducted a raid, caught the accused red hand, seized the money and registered a case in this connection. After conducting investigation, the then Lokayukta Inspector S Vijay Prasad submitted the chargesheet to the court.

The 3rd Additional and Sessions Court Judge Muralidhar Pai investigated the case and found the accused to be guilty of his crime and sentenced him 1 year of incarceration and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000. Additional Special Public Prosecutor Ravindra Munnippadi argued in favour of the prosecution.
