Kasaragod, 20 Apr 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: The crime branch raided a house located at Kayarkatte near Paivalike Manjeshwar in the district and seized a large number of lethal weapons on Friday, April 19. The raid was in connection to the incident in which a gang fired at Nail Beauty Parlour owned by Malayalam actor Leena Maria Paul, at Panampillinagar in Kochi.

Pistol, swords, spring knives and such other weapons, some mobile phones and number plates of vehicles were seized from the housed during the raid, informed crime branch officials.

A few days back, the crime branch personnel had arrested two persons including Bilal from Perumbavoor based on a complaint about firing at the said beauty parlour. It is learnt that the raid was in result to the information divulged by the accused when subjected to interrogation.

Apparently the house was the den where the gangs involved with crimes met and drew up plans. However during the raid, a sick, aged man who was bedridden was found alone inside the house whose statements were recorded by the police. The information provided by the invalid is not completely reliable, caution the officials.

So far, the police have determined that the brain behind the shootout incident happens to be Monayi from Thrissur who is currently on the run. It is believed that the accused is presently in Malaysia.

The accused was in town in sometime in the past when he entered into contract with Bilal and another person to fire bullets at the beauty parlour. Along with funding the attack, he had also provided the duo with pistol and a bike, explain police personnel.

Realizing that Monayi had stayed in this town for some years in the past, the police investigation has been expanded to this area. Kochi crime branch Deputy Superintendent of Police Jose Cherian is currently leading the investigation.
