AMU and JMI among top 20 universities in India

New Delhi, 11 Apr 2019 [Fik/News Sources]:  The Ministr of Human Resource Development on Monday released its fourth edition of NIRF Rankings wherein Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University are ranked amongst top 20 universities in the country.

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has been ranked 18th and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has ranked 19th in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Overall Ranking 2019 declared by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.

Delhi University’s Miranda House continued to maintain its position as the top college in India for the third year in a row. The second rank was secured by the Hindu College.

Jamia Hamdard Delhi has bagged an overall rank of 31. It however is the best Pharmacy Institute in India.

There are a number of changes in the rankings of the college, for example, Hansraj College jumped to the 9th position from 12th and Lady Shri Ram College from 8th to 5th in 2019. Further, St Stephen’s College skidded to the 4th position this year from 2nd. Hindu College, which was ranked fourth last year, has now jumped to rank two.

The NIRF was approved by the MHRD and launched by Minister of HRD in 2015. The first NIRF rankings were announced in 2016. The NIRF 2019 university rankin was released by President of India Ramnath Kovind on Monday.

The rankings are announced in 9 categories – Overall, Universities, Engineering, Colleges, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Architecture and Law.
