Udupi: Bengaluru engineering student drowns in Thottam Beach

Udupi, 20 Mar 2019 [Fik/News Sources]:  An old student of a private engineering college in Bengaluru, who was on picnic with 29 other students of the college, drowned in Thottam Beach, near Malpe sea on Tuesday, March 20.

Keerthan Simha (22), son of Narasimha from Tiptur near Tumakuru, is the deceased person.

About thirty students had arrived in a bus to Udupi. They had visited Krishna Math in the morning and arrived at Malpe seashore at about 3 pm in the afternoon.

All the students got down to water and started playing there. As there were huge waves in the sea and the sea was rough, watch guards in the seashore warned the students not to get down too deep in the water. But students ignored them.

Four among the students walked on the banks to Thottam beach nearby and played there also. The four students who were caught up in huge wave were washed away in water a little while later. The watch guards, who saw it, rushed and brought up all of them. As the students could not speak, they were taken to Udupi government hospital. But Keerthan had died by then. The others are recovering.

Keerthan had completed engineering recently. He had appeared for the examination and was waiting for the results. He had come on picnic with his classmates and junior students. Malpe police said that his parents have been informed.
