Minority Commission to get its chief shortly: Zameer Ahmed Khan

Bengaluru, 09 Jan 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: Minority Welfare, Hajj and Wakf Minister B.Z Zameer Ahmed Khan said that the Minority Commission would shortly get its new chief which was vacant after the resignation of Naseer Ahmed.

After releasing a booklet on various programmes for the minorities and 15 points programmes translated into Urdu at the Minority Commission office here on Tuesday, the Minister said that since the coalition partner JDS would take a decision on appointing chairman to the State Minority Development Corporation. As of now, the corporation has been functioning under him, he said.  

Delegation to New Delhi

In order to collect proper information on programmes introduced by the central government for minorities, a delegation of minority leaders would be taken to New Delhi shortly and discuss with the ministers and officials of the ministry, he said.

MLC and State Minority Commission former president Naseer Ahmed said that he had tried to constitute Cabinet sub-committee to discuss on minority problems for the first time in the country.

Dr G Parameshwar and Ramesh Kumar had worked well as the Cabinet Sub-Committee and now, the Committee was functioning under Home Minister MB Patil and the Committee should ensure justice to the minorities, he said.

As per the recommendation of the Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission, the minorities should get 15 per cent reservation in government appointments. They have made some recommendations to the government regarding the issue. Total 24 recommendations were presented before the Cabinet Sub-Committee, he said while appealing the Minister to take a decision.

The budget allocation for the SC/ST should be spent completely. Otherwise, officers concerned would be held responsible, for which a law was passed in the previous government. Same law should  be introduced for the minorities also, he appealed.
