Bengaluru, 17 Dec 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, Dinesh Gundu Rao, noting that Goa has been imposing restrictions on entry of fish from Karnataka into that state, urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in the matter and settle the issue.
He was speaking at a function organized at the KPCC office in the city on Sunday December 16 on the occasion of the taking over charge if KPCC fishermen's division's new president, Lingaraju.
"The decision of Goa to ban fish coming in from Karnataka has hurt the very union administration system. We have already discussed the problem with Goa government and Congress leaders from that state. It is not desirable for any of the states in the country to impose ban on inter-state businesses. This will adversely impact the union system of government.
Therefore, we urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to mediate in the matter and settle the issue," he said.
Rao said that Congress party has started a separate wing within the party for fishermen and steps have been taken to form district level committees. "New president of the division, Lingaraju, will form fishermen's committee in all the districts and thereby inform the community about the Congress policies," he added.
He explained that the party aims at strengthening fishermen, who have remained socially and financially backward.
"Congress has to come back to power to strengthen the fishermen community financially. Effort to attract youngsters from the community into Congress should be made. With the opening up of fisheries division, we also plan to support commercial activities of the fishermen," he explained.
On this occasion, he also urged the party activists, members and office bearers to work hard for three to four months unitedly as the coming Lok Sabha election is very critical for Congress.
KPCC working president, Ishwar Khandre, new president, Lingaraju, national vice president of fishermen's division, U R Sabhapathi etc were present.
