ISLAMABAD, 24 September 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: Pakistan's top court on Monday dismissed a petition seeking disqualification of premier Imran Khan, local media reports said.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nasir ruled the petition seeking Khan's disqualification as member of parliament was filed last year during the previous government, which had completed its term and was thus ineffective, English daily Dawn reported.

A local lawyer Barrister Danyal Chaudhry had filed the petition seeking Khan's disqualification in May 2017 for violating Article 62 and 63 of the constitution, which require a public office bearer to be "truthful and righteous".

The petition came as the top court was hearing a corruption case against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who was later convicted.
