Bengaluru, 12 Aug 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene has urged the state government not to dilute the provisions of the Karnataka Land Reforms Act. The provisions of the Act does not allow any person/organisation with an annual income of over Rs.25 lakhs to buy agricultural land.
According to sources, the state government is considering scrapping this clause to ensure that industrialists will get a chance to buy land wherever they want to take up various developmental projects, including affordable housing.
In a press release, Rajya Raitha Sangha and the Hasiru Sene president Kodihalli Chandrasekhar alleged that the proposed move is aimed at appeasing the industrialists. "This move may have an adverse impact on the food security of the country. It will also impact the farming tradition," he warned.
He also warned that if the state government takes any such decision, farmers will hold a state-wide protest.
