Bengaluru, 12 July 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: A class nine student of a Bengaluru school committed suicide, on Tuesday night as he was not elected as class leader.
The boy, Dhruvraj(14), a student of Baldwin Co-Education Extension High School, RR Nagar was found hanging at his residence in Rajarajeshwarinagar, southwest Bengaluru. According to his homemaker mother, Divya, Dhruvraj was very confident of being elected class leader but when a classmate was chosen over him he went into depression, and this she believes led him to commit suicide.
On Tuesday night, Dhruvraj retired to his room without having dinner. Later, when she knocked at his door and got no response, Divya with the help of a neighbour broke open the room door to find Dhruvraj hanging from the ceiling. He was rushed to a hospital but was declared brought dead by the doctors.
“The election was a month ago. There were four contenders in the fray, and my son was confident of a victory. But a classmate was chosen. My son was not happy as he thought he had all the qualities of a leader and there was no reason to reject him,” police quoted Divya as saying.
As per Divya, Dhruvraj had gone into a depression after a school programme held on June 10 to announce the class leaders. Divya, had however thought that he may recover in a day or two.
Meanwhile, the school authorities have denied that the elections would have triggered Dhruvraj’s suicide and hinted that he may have resorted to this step due to personal reasons.
Notably, Dhruvraj’s father, Rajesh Kumar, a businessman committed suicide while the former was in UKG. At that time, Dhruvraj had seen his father hanging.
