New Delhi, 14 Jun 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: After 26 years of losing touch, celebrity chef Vikas Khanna finally on Monday, 11 reunited with the Muslim family that saved his life during the 1992 violent riots in Mumbai.

In a interview with actor Anupam Kher for Republic TV in 2017, the celebrity chef based in New York revealed that has been fasting for a day during the holy month of Ramadan since 1992 in honour of the kindhearted family who saved his life during the gruesome riots.

“… I started walking towards Ghatkopar,” Vikas recalls. “There were mobs and riots everywhere. I reached a cross-section, where a Muslim family asked me what I was doing. I told them that my brother was in Ghatkopar and I don’t know how to get there. They urged me to come in their house because the mobs were violent outside.”

“Is he Muslim?” emphasized the mob. “Yes,” the family replied. And soon enough, the mob left.

Now, he’s happy to have finally traced the family he lost touch with. So happy with the news, Khanna tweeted.

“Heartwarming evening. All Heart. Tears. Pain. Pride. Courage. Humanity. Gratitude. This will be the most significant and important EID of my life. Thank you, everyone, to connect me with my souls,” he said in his tweet.

His subsequent tweet carried a photo of the chef with a family breaking Ramadan fast at Delhi’s Jama Masjid. He wrote, “On the holy occasion of EID. May every home and heart be filled with abundance, happiness and peace. #EidMubarak. May this EID bring the world together. #Gratitude.”

Earlier in the day, he had tweeted, “This is one of the happiest day of my life. @AnupamPKher ji had interviewed me last year for @republic & I shared the story of Muslim family that saved my life during riots. WE FOUND THEM & today I shall break the fast with them.”
