Rahul Gandhi stresses need for working from booth level

Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday announced that every single Congress leader will have to take responsibility for at least one polling booth and work for it.

Addressing party workers in Durg district of Chhattisgarh on the second day of his two-day tour of poll-bound Chhattisgarh, he said: “Every single leader in the party, including Rahul Gandhi, will have to take responsibility for at least one booth.”

Mr. Gandhi announced that 90% of party candidates for the upcoming Assembly election in the State would be declared by August 15.

‘No ticket for outsiders’
“For me, the party worker is the most important.Congress workers often don’t get a hearing even during our own party’s rule. But now you will get ticket. People coming in choppers won’t get them. Our workers will take the decisions in Chhattisgarh. Go to the people and tell them that the Prime Minister lies, the CM is corrupt here, and all benefits are going to RSS workers,” he said.

Mr. Gandhi conceded that there had been instances when senior Congress leaders did not respect the workers. “My aim is to change this. In the next two years, even senior leaders won’t be spared if they insult our workers. You are the backbone of the party. This time outsiders will not be given ticket,” Mr. Gandhi said to a question from the workers.
