Mangaluru, 15 May 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: The BJP has registered a landslide victory in seven out of the eight Assembly constituencies in DK district with the Congress having to remain satisfied with a single win, i.e in Mangaluru (Ullal) constituency.
The results have come as a shocker to only the Congress candidates but also the party leaders as the party had heavily banked upon the several developmental initiatives of the Siddaramaiah Government.
BA Moidin Bava, the Congress candidate of Mangaluru North while accepting the verdict said "Hindutva wave has led to my defeat."
Meanwhile, UT Khader who is the only Congress candidate to win from DK said "The developmental works had reached the grassroots level. But anti-propaganda has won."
Congress heavyweight B Ramanatha Rai who lost from Bantwal said he would abide by the verdict of the people.
On the other hand Rajesh Naik Ulipady, the victorious BJP candidate from Bantwal said "Ramanatha Rai’s appeasement policy has led to my win. He has failed to undertake any developmental work. This is a victory of my party workers."
BJP’s Harish Poonja has won from Belthangady, Sanjeeva Matandoor from Puttur, S Angara from Sullia, Vedavyas Kamath from Mangaluru South, Dr Bharath Shetty from Mangaluru North and Umanath Kotian from Moodbidri.
Victory celebrations despite ban orders : Jubilant BJP workers celebrated the victory of their candidates without bothering about the prohibitory orders under Section 144 which is in place till midnight on May 16.
