GUWAHATI, 24 Mar 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: The Stars of North East (SoNE) is a group of professionals engaged in the unearthing, nurturing, and showcasing of talents among the youngsters in our society. Periodical “Star Talks” are organised by SoNE in order to disseminate information to stakeholders so that they may share the information with a larger number of people engaged in works relating to empowerment of the youth.
During the last six months, eminent achievers from different fields have deliberated at Star Talks among whom were Kismat Bano (theatre), Salma Hussain (human rights), Syed Mohsin Raja (social Media), Dr Rezwan Hussain (biotechnology), Tinat Atifa Masood (personality development), Mirza M Irshad (disaster management), Shalim M Hussain (folk culture), and Siddharth P Dutta (communication).
The next talk in the series is scheduled on March 25, 2018 in which Dr Abdus Saleque, chief scientist, Goat Research Centre (under Assam Agriculture University), Burnihat will deliberate on “Scientific goat farming: a profitable enterprise.” The deliberation will cover different aspects of goat farming such as selection of the right breed for farming in the North East, nurturing of the livestock, support available from government department and financial institutions etc to enable prospective youngsters taking up this productive activity.
Dr Saleque, who did his BVSc & MVSc from Assam Agriculture University took his PhD from GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, Uttaranchal in 1990. His research work covering various fields of life sciences has received wide acceptance and appreciation from across the continents. Starting his career in 1977 as a Veterinary Assistant Surgeon in the Government of Assam he has today ascended to the position of the Chief Scientist of the Goat Research Centre. He has been instrumental in helping a large number of SHGs and entrepreneurs in setting up goat farms in different parts of the North East.
The University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) and the Magic Bus Foundation of India are collaborating with SoNE for successful completion of the programme.
