Bengaluru, 20 Mar 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: State JD (S) president H D Kumaraswamy on Monday termed the decision of the state government to recommend religious minority status to Lingayats and Veerashaiva Lingayats as an act of vengeance.
He told the media here the state government has acted in haste in seeking a report from the committee headed by former high court judge H N Nagamohan Das and recommend minority status in a hurry to the Centre. None, however, had any idea about details of the report submitted by this committee. Even elected representatives were kept in the dark about recommendations made by the committee, he added. Mr Kumaraswamy said the state government did not make any efforts to discuss the report with seers and take their suggestions while dealing with a sensitive issue. “It is also not correct on the part of the state government to meddle with religious issues at the cost of addressing people’s grievances,” he added.
He warned that the state government would have to pay a heavy price for hastily dealing with this religious issue.
